I wanted to let you know that we have updated our TBK Tracker Learning Management System (LMS) to support Flash content. As many of you know, TBK Tracker manages off-line content deployed via CD or on a Local Area Network. ToolBook and Flash courses can be stored in the same database. ToolBook courses are started with a “front end book.” Flash courses are started by launching a .NET “projector” that takes care of all the heavy lifting. Content created with our Training StudioT works out of the box. For other Flash content, there are some documented calls to make.

This tool permits you to move a range of pages to another location within your ToolBook file. For example, lets say that after creating your 180 page book you realize that pages 115-175 really should be shown right after page 12. Moving these manually would be very tedious. This tool will move the entire page range in a matter of seconds.

This just to let you know that I have updated my Enhanced Validate ToolBook tool for ToolBook 9. The Enhanced Validate ToolBook File will locate potential problems with your ToolBook file and display a report to allow you to correct the problems before you publish to HTML. It is a feature enhanced version of the existing Validate ToolBook file provided by SumTotal systems (available through ToolBook’s Tools/Developers Exchange in ToolBook).

QUESTION
The DISTRIB.WRI file which has always shipped with ToolBook is missing from ToolBook 9.0, why?
DETAILS
The DISTRIB.WRI file, in the past, has contained a list of what files make up the ToolBook Runtime engine. This was useful for those who didn’t want to use the ToolBook AutoPackager to create an installation package for their ToolBook Native application and would prefer to use a third party installer.
This was removed from ToolBook 9 because to install ToolBook properly onto an end-user machine, more needs to be done than simply installing some files. There are registry entries to create, and INI files to update, and only ToolBook would know how to do all of this correctly. As such the DISTRIB.WRI was removed and it is recommended that you use the Neuron.exe installer if you want to install ToolBook’s runtime engine to an end user.
