Today another Blackcomb Preview Release update is available for download. The primary purpose of this release is to introduce the new SmartStyles feature to ToolBook 9. This exciting new technology lets you easily create books using a range of pre-defined common page types (”SmartPages”) and pre-defined styles (”SmartStyles”). You can drag new pages and objects out of the catalog which automatically take on the style of your current book. And you can easily completely re-style your entire book by dragging a new style out of the catalog.
You can define your own SmartStyles using industry standard CSS files. Either create your own from scratch or edit existing styles. SmartPages are simple XML files, and again you can edit the existing SmartPages or create your own custom page types.
For a quick introduction on using SmartStyles and SmartPages, please see the Blackcomb Features page. Note that this preview release only includes two SmartStyles and an incomplete set of SmartPages. More will be included in later preview releases.
What is the status of the 32-bit build of ToolBook 9?
The 32-bit build of ToolBook 9 still has some blocking issues preventing us from using it for a preview release, so this preview release is again based on the latest 16-bit build of ToolBook 9. Once the 32-bit build passes the preview release quality criteria, we will make it available in a preview release.
