On April 11, 2006 Microsoft released a new update for Windows which changes the behaviour of the Internet Explorer browser. This change was the results of a Lawsuit between Eolas Technologies and Microsoft. The change will affect ToolBook (2004) SP2 and SP3 exports:-( Read more »

SumTotal Systems has signed a $13-million contract to deliver learning and business performance software and services to ExcellerateHRO, the jointly owned human resources (HR) outsourcing business of EDS and Towers Perrin. Under the agreement, ExcellerateHRO’s customers can access SumTotal’s Enterprise Suite 7.2 — consisting of a learning management system (LMS), learning content management system (LCMS), and performance management solution — by tapping into a web-based portal developed and administered by ExcellerateHRO. ExcellerateHRO will use the SumTotal suite to prescribe learning plans and training, track certification and compliance related activities, and boost employee productivity and performance. SumTotal Systems, the largest provider of learning and business performance technologies and services, announced that Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. has purchased SumTotal’s LMS 7.1, which is an enterprise platform solution for analyzing, storing and delivering learning. Schwab will use the software, among other things, to instruct 14,000 employees on job skills as well as compliance and regulatory issues. Read more »

In the past months, I have been staging for a rewrite of my books for the most anticipated Blackcomb release of ToolBook. Prior to this time, I had chosen not to rewrite the Introduction to ToolBook Instructor 8.5 for ToolBook Instructor 2004 since at the intro level, there were no real changes that affected the lessons in that book. I had, however, wrote an Actions Editor/Simulation/HTTP post book for Instructor 2004. To be prepared for a smooth transition to Blackcomb, I have done a slight revision of the Intro to 8.5 book to bring it up to date with Instructor 2004 SP3. Likewise, a few minor edits to the Actions Editor book to bring it up to date for SP3. Another goal I had was to reduce confusion as to what books to order for those just getting into ToolBook.

I have created a summary (including a link to download an example) of a strategy to allow use of Toolbook to wrap arbitrary html content for export to an LMS (basically any LMS that Toolbook supports). There are some small gotchas but overall the strategy works well.
