Benjamin Moore Selects SumTotal Enterprise Suite for Performance Management

SumTotal Systems, the largest provider of learning and business performance technologies, services and processes, today announced that Benjamin Moore & Co., one of the country’s leading manufacturers of premium quality residential, commercial and industrial maintenance coatings, has chosen the SumTotal Enterprise Suite 7.0, as the platform to drive its performance management strategy.

Benjamin Moore’s goal for the new learning and performance management initiative is to more closely align employee development plans with the company’s business objectives to increase bottom-line results. Additionally, Benjamin Moore wanted to increase employee readiness to drive customer service improvements throughout the organization.

Prior to selecting the SumTotal Enterprise Suite, Benjamin Moore had been managing hundreds of classroom events manually, making it a challenge to understand or report on employee performance, competencies or compliance. In order to better manage this process, the company started a search for a more solid learning infrastructure that could scale for future expansion and address the number of people, learning activities and initiatives necessary for strategic growth. After a thorough evaluation process, the selection team chose the SumTotal Enterprise Suite, including the TotalLMS, TotalPerformance, TotalInformation and TotalAccess modules, to provide a mechanism to measure employees competencies, understand performance indicators for individuals, groups and organizations and directly link performance to development and learning opportunities.

“We chose SumTotal because its strong mix of tools met our critical business needs,” said Guy Gosselin, senior manager of organizational development and learning. “TotalPerformance was a key element in our decision, as it will help us ensure that internal employee development plans and performance goals are closely aligned with our business objectives.”

“We had been impressed with both Click2learn’s and Docent’s capabilities to meet our needs and the merger of the two companies made the SumTotal platform that much more compelling,” said Gosselin. “After seeing SumTotal 7.0, we were struck by the uniqueness of the system. We immediately liked the amount of flexibility and configurability, which we didn’t see in competing systems. We also were thoroughly impressed with the ease of implementation, which also was quite unlike other systems that were complex to implement and didn’t have the required functionality. References from other SumTotal customers were great and we felt the SumTotal team would serve as a tremendous asset in helping us reach our business goals.”

“Benjamin Moore’s efforts to tie internal employee development plans directly to business results and to increase customer service by improving employee readiness are ideal examples of how enterprises are using learning to tackle real-world business challenges,” said R. Andrew Eckert, SumTotal CEO. “We are delighted to be able to contribute to Benjamin Moore’s growth and to provide a solution that addresses all aspects of its performance management strategy.”

“We are doing all of this so that our employees will have easier access at the time of need, with a single place to go for information,” added Gosselin. “TotalLMS will be the center point for employees to search for and access information, self-register for just-in-time training and complete compliance requirements. We expect other groups in the company to quickly become excited about the technology and to create their own programs. This allows us to leverage other tools and content in many ways and at different times in the learning cycle, making the system a great investment over time.”
