A repackaged version of G.W. van der Vegt’s OpenSock open source Internet library is now available as ToolBook 8.5 catalog. Implemented entirely in OpenScript, this impressive collection of native deployment widgets enables ToolBook developers to create Web/Internet client and server applications.
Obviously using ToolBook as a Web server isn’t going to replace Apache or IIS although there are sensible applications, such as website emulation for training or low-load intranet servers. However, for Web client development - sending and receiving information across the Web, the OpenSock widgets allow easy integration of Web interaction into native ToolBook applications.
The following zip file contains a catalog folder. Unzip it to somewhere like "C:\Program Files\Click2learn\Instructor85" and then, in your ToolBook book, choose Book Properties from the Object menu and open this new catalog by browsing to the "opensockcatalog\catalog.ini" file.
